Traditional Italian Recipes

From chicken parmesan to Neapolitan pizza, Italian cuisine is revered worldwide. But many don’t know that traditional Italian meals typically consist of multiple courses served over multiple sittings. Traditional Italian recipes may range from weeknight pasta dinners with cheese and pepper to stews and stuffed dishes, all designed to bring people closer to their roots.

Most pasta go go takeaway pasta meals start with antipasti or appetizers, such as stuffed olives and bruschetta. Next comes primo (first course of the actual meal), such as soup, salad, pasta or other rice dish. For mains, you have fish, chicken or meat dishes followed by contorno–seasonal vegetables cooked and added as accompaniment–plus dolce (dessert)! With these classic Italian recipes, you can whip up an unforgettable feast for friends and family – don’t forget to salt pasta water!

Gluten-Free

Gluten-free pasta is healthier and delicious – most people can’t tell the difference when tested blind. The only noticeable difference is a grainier texture compared to wheat pasta noodles.

All our gluten-free pastas are produced in a dedicated facility and tested for gluten by our culinary staff, who work closely with Stella McCarty – a former pastry chef turned food writer who was diagnosed with Celiac disease – and Breana Killeen (registered dietician), to ensure delicious yet nutritious pasta dishes!

Like regular pasta, our gluten-free options can be prepared following package directions. However, due to a lack of structural integrity caused by gluten molecules in gluten-free pasta, careful attention must be paid during the cooking time to avoid overdoing and creating sticky noodles! When preparing gluten-free pasta, make sure to add plenty of water in a large pot, as well as frequently stir!

Vegan

While most pasta recipes include eggs, squid ink or milk as ingredients, there are also vegan-friendly versions. Read labels carefully and know which elements to avoid; for example, you could find fresh pasta without eggs topped with deliciously creamy vegan cheese! In addition, traditional buckwheat flour pastas offer gluten-free nutrition as an alternative.

Sauces

You choose your pasta type (tortellini, spaghetti, penne, fettuccine, ravioli or gnocchi) and your sauce. They cook up both to order, put them in a box, and you have an amazing takeaway dinner. It’s like the Wok In A Box of pasta!

The flat ribbon-like pastas, such as fettuccine and linguine, are a good match for rich or creamy sauces. Their surface area allows them to stand up to the heft of heartier sauces, and their structural shapes – including ruffles, ridges and curls – lend themselves to picking up flavours from different proteins and vegetables.

The thick, long tubes of pasta like tagliatelle and pappardelle have a heftier bite or mouthfeel, making them better suited for louder flavours, such as crushed red pepper flakes and tangy pancetta. Their shape also lends itself well to letting fluid, loose sauces run down the centre and capture more of their flavours. These pastas pair best with simple cream sauces or delicate proteins like seafood.
